My paintings are sophisticated layerings of imagery that use a vocabulary of the surreal, the sensuous, the geometric and the abstract. All elements are injected with a biomorphic sensibility that is derived from my interest in translating both internal and external elements of the human body into a fresh language of literal and symbolic form.
In my paintings, I introduce areas of pure color as architectural elements within the constraints of the canvas. The work begins my investigation of the relationship between the biomorphic and the architectural. Although accessing the spontaneity of the subconscious, the painting is also a carefully orchestrated composition which utilizes my signature pools of color, delicate line work and elegant tension between the organic and the mechanical.
Sometimes the organic nature of the painting expands beyond the confines of the canvas to embrace the environment with wall painting and site specific installation. Both the works on canvas and the installations create a dialogue between the architectural space and the polymorphous imagery. Whether on canvas or on the wall, formal and aesthetic tensions imbue the work with vibrancy and presence. The precision of the edges and the liquidity of the pours and washes, the physicality of the paintings and the constraints of the architectural environment all contribute to the freshness and exuberance of this work.
